Streamlined Parking at CCSU: Celebrating One Year of APGS

Posted in News

Cheshire, CT – July 23, 2024 – The accredited Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, Connecticut will soon commemorate the one year milestone of the installation of its Automated Parking Guidance System (APGS). Installed in the Willard-DiLoreto Garage, the Park Assist solution is aiding students, faculty, staff, and visitors in navigating and parking in the structure’s 4 floors and 611 parking spaces.

Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) stands out as a beacon of excellence in higher education and is renowned for its unwavering commitment to academic achievement and student success. Accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), CCSU maintains rigorous academic standards that ensure the quality of its programs and the education its students receive. Over its 175 year history, CCSU has been honored with numerous awards and accolades for its top-notch faculty, innovative research initiatives, exceptional academics, and commitment to empowering students both inside and outside the classroom, including recently announcing its designation as an AmeriCorps School of National Service.

“Central Connecticut State University’s commitment to excellence in all facets of their campus experience is truly commendable,” said Jeff Sparrow, Director of Sales, North America. “Our technology seamlessly aligns with their vision, prioritizing student, faculty, and staff satisfaction from the moment they arrive. Successfully navigating the tight timeframe between semesters presented a unique opportunity for our team to demonstrate their expertise, and they met it with unwavering dedication.”

At the heart of CCSU’s automated parking guidance system lies the camera-based M5 smart-sensor. Equipped with two CMOS digital cameras on each side, these M5 smart-sensors are strategically positioned above the driving lanes, each capable of monitoring up to six parking spaces (three on either side). With an accuracy rate exceeding 99%, the M5 features a full spectrum RGB (LED) indicator that can be customized with thousands of color options to signify occupancy, parking space types, and more. Decreasing time to park by up to 63%, this system streamlines traffic and relieves congestion in and around parking structures, allowing students and faculty to park and arrive to class in record time.

CCSU’s automated parking guidance system (APGS) package also includes:

● The camera-based C5 Smart Counting Solution strategically installed at crucial locations, precisely detecting bidirectional traffic and transmitting the counts to both VMS signs and INX for comprehensive reporting,
Park Alerts, that sends prompt notifications to facility management when important or banned persons enter the structure, vehicles remain in time-limited spaces for too long, or drivers park in restricted areas,
Park Surveillance, which thoroughly monitors every parking space, capturing HD streaming video 24/7 upon detecting motion or continuously, enabling security personnel to efficiently identify and address any suspicious activity,
LCD-NAV, an innovative outdoor display, offering real-time customizable updates to effectively communicate with drivers and enhance parking guidance,
VMS-NAV signage that is strategically placed at key decision points, offering unparalleled messaging flexibility and assists drivers with wayfinding,
INX integration, providing robust data analytics on both real-time and historical trends including dwell time, turnover rate, frequency analysis, and environmental conditions along with reporting tools for data-driven decision making,
● And a strategic API integration, heightening operational efficiency by seamlessly coordinating the many aspects of the APGS.

“Thanks to the LCD VMS signage placed at the garage entrance, parkers can easily see if the garage has available spaces,” stated Sparrow. “And if not, they can move on to the next parking facility quickly.”
